CAD/LAN System Guidebook: Font Standards

To simplify coordination of drawings and maintain consistency for production type drawings. KU has chosen a short list of acceptable fonts. The University has standardized on three shape style fonts files (.shx) and numerous TrueType fonts.

• Shape font files (.shx)

  Two of the fonts shown here are not included in the standard release of AutoCAD and are available upon request or can be downloaded here.

  Text Style Name	Font File Name	Description
  Romans	Romans.shx	Romans.shx is a very simple yet clean font. It is used for general text. This font is included with AutoCAD.
  Archstyl	Archstyl.shx	Archstyl.shx is a handwritten architectural looking font. Primarily used for production notes. This font can be downloaded by clicking on the font name.
  Helv	Helv.shx	Helv.shx is a bold, simple font. It is used for text in title blocks and sheet titles. This font can be downloaded by clicking on the font name.

  True Type Fonts

  AutoCAD recently added "full" support for some TrueType fonts. Full suppor t implies that AutoCAD supports oblique angles, widths, rotation and more. This full support is available for only a subset of the TrueType fonts that are insta lled on any particular workstation. The University allows the use of only the Tr ueType Fonts that ship with AutoCAD. References to these can be found in AutoCAD's on-line help. The following table lists these fonts.
